V&A Summer Soiree

They thought I was a surrealist but I wasn’t. I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality”

– Frida Kahlo

The sun is shining and Euphonica are feeling elated after a fantastic night at The V&A’s ‘Summer Soiree’. This event was based on the V&A’s latest exhibition of the moment, Frida Kahlo: Making Herself Up which had opened to the public in June 2018. Frida’s iconic persona, style and vibrant statement colours made this an extremely exciting brief for all involved. We relished the opportunity to work with our friends at Philippa Craddock, Wise Productions and Zafferano to ensure a fantastic night of colour, Mexican flair (and a touch of tequila).

Opening with our authentic all-female mariachi band (aptly named the Frida Ensemble ), we welcomed guests into the venue with traditional rancherra ballads from the Mexican revolution, alongside a selection of Frida Kahlo’s favourite songs. Our trio then guided guests to the entrance of the exhibition, providing the perfect background ambience to the Frida inspired reception.

Next up, we had our headline act Play it Bahia who blended together a mix of popular music and Latin soul. The result was a sophisticated lounge set in the Dome which reflected the relaxed, yet elegant vibe of the evening. Our lead singer’s flawless and sultry vocals flowed seamlessly around the space, giving the event a real wow factor!

Thank you to the V&A for asking us to be part of such a fantastic event and to our friends at Wise Production, Phillipa Craddock and Zafferano for enhancing such a beautiful space with stunning floral designs, lighting and wonderful catering. We think you’ll agree that Matt Chung captured the evening perfectly.
