The event was formal. The guest list was young. The vibe was celebratory. A tightrope of an event that was neither piano recital nor school disco.
We pitched to the Duke of Edinburgh team the idea of matchmaking the grand surroundings of The Salon and the Egyptian Hall with a vintage sound. Something that felt at home in the period surroundings, but was bursting with contemporary fun and playfulness. They loved the idea.
Our distinctive 50s skiffle band, the Roaming Charges, set the mood in the Salon. This is a band who are used to grand rooms as they regularly perform in the West End. The light hearted fun of a roaming band helped everyone relax into the evening and set the tone for some feel good in the form of a few Elvis, Johnny Cash and vintage covers of modern pop. For the main event in the Egyptian Hall and with royalty in mind, we put forward one of Europe’s leading dance ensembles, Benoit and his Orchestra. They filled the dance floor in the first 30 seconds and kept it full throughout their set. We were delighted the band got a shout out from the Prince.
